Although industrial design contributions are prevalent in consumer products which are typically sold in highly competitive markets, commercial and industrial products also benefit from the same skill sets. This special state-of-the-art commercial pool chlorinator was originally breadboarded in a prototype as a series of pipes and internal hardware as shown in these images. IDS presented Lonza with a number of photorealistic styling alternatives based on different capital investments and unit costs.

Their selection of the triangular form was eventually detailed and engineered to a fully functional production unit, which has proven to be the best decision. Sales have far exceeded initial forecasts due to customer perception product sophistication, ease of use, performance, and quality. Industrial design skills were essential to the success of this product establishing its acceptance in the marketplace.
