King Slide

Industrial designers must always maintain an open mind and be flexible in their thinking which allows us to develop a wide range of products as demonstrated by this interesting project for King Swings. Our understanding of children’s playful behavior and safety concerns combined with our understanding of form, aesthetics, proportion, and plastics engineering. Together, these aesthetics and branding factors enabled us to develop this unique modular plastic spiral slide.

A series of concept sketches, preliminary CAD models, and some engineering studies calculating slopes of different spiral pitches enabled us to develop and perfect this unique modular system, which can be configured in heights ranging from 5 to 9 feet. Although the design appears to be simple, the very complicated geometric forms and engineering considerations have been subtly integrated within the overall form, which is elegantly complemented by the wooden framework supporting it.
