Automated Blood Gas Analyzer
Bayer Advia 800i
The Bayer Diagnostics (currently a division of Siemens) Advia 800i was a modular, highly integrated and complex automated blood gas analyzer developed for high volume diagnostic facilities. Our new product design and development contributions focused on the most critical and complex subsystem within this medical device: the sample handle shown toward the far left of the system. We analyzed all of the components, sub-assemblies and their inter-relationships during the breadboard stages of development. A number of cost-effective design concepts were created by our team and eventually fully detailed into a one-piece structural foam-molded chassis which supported the dozens of sub-assemblies. Ultimately, our design maximized performance, created ease of service, produced ease of assembly and optimized user interface as illustrated in the images.
