Individuals with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or goiter can be examined with an injection of radioactive iodine and Biodex’s radiation thyroid detector. This medical equipment analyzes the function of the thyroid by reading the percent of radioactive iodine absorbed by the thyroid gland. Our primary objective was to propose a design which could be cost-effectively manufactured, ergonomically optimized, was aesthetically attractive, and was structurally sound. The images shown illustrate numerous design details as well as one of many foam core iterations created to verify human factors and ergonomic considerations for both the patient and the technician.
